Fresh water

Rab Island has more sources of fresh water than any other Adriatic island. Rab is one of the few islands along this coast that has its own water supply. On 11 November 1986 an undersea pipe was laid from the mainland to Rab. The final completion of the pipeline along Velebit and the subsequent piping of water from Hrmotine (the Senj hydroelectric plant) will mean great sacrifice for the islanders, but they do so willingly.

Electricity

Rab had its own power plant before the First World War, but it could only meet the needs of the town Rab. A few years after the Second World War, work was begun on a low-voltage network and the introduction of electricity to all the towns on the island. Then a new thermo power plant was built in the Palit area. An undersea cable was laid across Goli Island to Rab in 1963, with a capacity of 35 kV, and the local thermo power plant serves now as a back-up system wich can, in emergency, meet only a small percentage of Rab's needs. The capacity of the existing electric cable is no langer adequate, so by 1990 a new undersea cable for 110 kV will be laid from Krk to Rab , with a 110 kV transformer on Rab , wich should satisfy the long run needs for electrical energy.
